The Nature of Art

I love the PostSecret web site, and generally cannot wait until they post new cards there each Sunday. When I read these cards and see the wonderful images, collages, thoughts-on-paper that people send in, I'm warmed.

I love this site so because I think that these little cards are "art" in its purest form: raw expression of deep and powerful emotion. I love the duality of text and image. Sometimes they move me quite a lot and for reasons that I cannot always explain. Just like "real" art.

This site proves to me what I've always felt and suspected and which was almost completely drummed out of me in grade school: we're all artists when it comes right down to it, whether the expression of our art is a formal painting, sculpture, or merely the way we wear clothes, paint our houses, arrange our furniture or simply write our signatures.

Art is natural to us all.
